About Chichén Itzá

Chichén Itzá is a Maya archaeological site in Yucatán, known for El Castillo and other monuments spread across the visitor route. A guided visit can include long pauses outside, not just the walking time between buildings.

Use this forecast for the archaeological site rather than borrowing a beach forecast from Cancun. The locations are different, and the hours you spend travelling are not the same as the hours you spend among the ruins.

Stops in open ground

A guide's explanation or a photograph may keep you in one place longer than expected. Include that time when checking the curve, particularly if your tour arrives close to the daily peak.

Cloud and humidity can change how the day feels. They do not tell you that UV is low; check the hourly estimate and bring protection for exposed parts of the visit.

Plan for arrival, not just departure

A coach may leave the coast early and reach the site later in the morning. Compare the forecast with your expected time at Chichén Itzá, then allow for a visit that runs longer than planned.

Use INAH's official visitor information for current access arrangements. The forecast above cannot tell you which paths or monuments will be open during your trip.

Sun protection tips for Chichén Itzá

  • Keep a hat and sunglasses ready when leaving the coach or car, rather than packed at the bottom of a bag.
  • Bring covering clothing and sunscreen for exposed skin, and follow the product label.
  • Look for breaks out of direct sun during the visit without assuming that shade will be available at every stop.

UV forecasts are model estimates for the area, not readings from the monument itself. Shade and your route change your actual exposure. This is general information about sun safety and isn’t medical advice. Last updated October 24, 2026.
